Anabelia O. Cardenas

February 28, 1933 - October 12, 2021

Anabelia Ortiz Cardenas has been called to be with our Lord. she was born in Del Rio, TX, on February 28, 1933, to Viviano Ortiz and Julia Chacon Ortiz. she passed away on October 12, 2021, at the age of 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rodolfo Valentin Cardenas, with whom she would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this October 21st. She is also preceded in death by her brothers: Ramon, Jorge, Refugio, Baldemar, and infant brother, and sisters: Mary Jane Fay and Guadalupe Ramirez. Belia was the eldest of nine siblings. She took care of her brothers and sisters while her parents worked. she attended San Felipe High school and in 1973 she obtained her GED. She was a housewife who was always helping family members and neighbors. She took care of her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. She also often babysat her grandchildren. Her favorite color was red, and her favorite pastime was playing bingo. She was very friendly and would speak with anybody nearby. Her faith as a Catholic was always strong. She was always a happy person and would light the room with her smile. she will be missed by all her family who have loved and cherished her dearly. She leaves behind seven children: Patricia (Abelardo II) Paniagua, Mary (Sherman) Sears, Alicia (Robert) Hotchkiss, Romelia Mata, Rodolfo Jr (Maria) Cardenas, Rosalinda (Fernando) Martinez, and Eduardo (Maria) Cardenas. Also left to cherish her memory are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who also loved her dearly. Her brother Frank (Janie) Ortiz, sister-in-law Maria Elena Ortiz, and a brother-in-law George Fay will also miss her greatly. Pallbearers: Fernando Martinez, Abelardo Paniagua III, Edric Cardenas, Rodolfo Mata, Christopher Clark, and Robert Hotchkiss, Jr. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at G. W. Cox memorial Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow to San Felipe Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under care and direction of G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home, 114 Fletcher Drive, Del Rio, Texas.
