Buren David Sowell, Sr.

Buren David Sowell Sr. left this world for greater glory on November 14, 2021, in San Antonio surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old. Alert and active until the end of his life. David, as he preferred to be called, was a friend to everyone, always had a funny story or joke to tell, generous, thoughtful of others and was loved and respected by all those who knew him. Born in Hereford, Texas on August 7, 1928, he spent his childhood in the Texas Panhandle and Hereford. He was the only son and oldest of two children born to Helen and Prentis Buren Sowell. His Sister Margaret Sowell Cunningham preceded him in death. David loved working on airplanes and cars. He joined the military in 1951, during the Korean War, as an airplane mechanic. He left the military in 1955 as a jet mechanic instructor and began his career as an airplane mechanic instructor for LYV, Northrop, Lockheed-Martin, and British Aerospace in the United States and Saudi Arabia. At home he spent his time on any tinkering projects family and friends needed and fishing whenever possible. He is survived by his wife Gloria Turner Sowell of 43 years, 4 children, Diana Sowell Magee and her husband Curt Magee, David Sowell Jr. and his wife Debi Sowell, Dennis Sowell and his wife Ann Sowell, and Monica Sowell Bowden and her husband Eric Bowden, grandchildren Daniel Magee, DJ Sowell, Danielle Sowell Mattson, Ryan Sowell, Dr Andrew Oshiro, and Danielle Craig, and many great grandchildren He will be greatly missed
