Clara Louise Christians Rose

August 12, 1924 - January 19, 2022

Clara Christians Rose, 97, died January 19, 2022, in New Braunfels, Texas. Many knew her as “Sweetie,” a nickname bestowed on her as a toddler by a doting grandfather. Clara was born on August 12, 1924, in San Antonio, Texas, to Chris B. Christians and Clara A. Christians. She married her husband of 65 years, Wilford Abb Rose, on November 10, 1944. The couple spent many happy years together ranching country in Val Verde, Kinney, and Terrell Counties. Clara’s seven grandchildren lovingly called her “Granny” and will miss her sweet and steady presence in their lives. She was the enthusiastic audience for their many private plays, puppet shows, and music recitals; and their ready companion during endless hours spent playing cards and working puzzles. She loved her family dearly. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Abb Rose, and her three children, Linda Rose Hopkins, Bill Rose, and James Edward Rose. Clara is survived by her seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Shannon Hopkins Work and husband Chris of Houston; Jordan, Abby, and Patrick Work. Kim Hopkins Cauthorn and husband Sid of Del Rio; Abb, Hattie, and Mills Cauthorn. Jill Rose and husband Bryan Black of New Braunfels; Rayden and Alarie Richter. Nan Rose Chandler and husband Joe of Houston; Bill, Charlie, Kate, and Claire Chandler. R.E. Hopkins and wife Robin of Midland; Will and Casey Hopkins. Amy Rose McPartland and husband Shannon of Houston; Hayden and Rylan Millar, Macy, Madeleine, and Ella McPartland. Mindy Rose of Midland; Avery Cox. She is also survived by her son-in-law Roger Hopkins of New Braunfels, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio on Friday, January 28th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Del Rio or a charity of your choice. “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in!” Malachi 3:10 NLT
