Francis Neal Thompson Sr.

October 22, 1931 - October 23, 2016

Francis Neal Thompson, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 23, 2016. He was born in Andrews, Texas on October 22, 1931, to Guy and Nell Thompson. Left to cherish his memory are Betty Thompson, his wife of 66 years, sister Joy Scott (Tommy), son Danny Thompson Sr. (Alma), grandchildren: D'Ann (Mario), Danny Jr. (Jennifer), Dusty, Wendy, Heather, Kimberly and Francis III, as well as several great-grandchildren: Clint Taylor, Justin Moore, Dylan and Caden Thompson, Salaem Vincent and Braden Vann, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, Billy Ray Phillips. In 1950 he met and married Betty Viola Swift. Shortly afterwards, he went into business with his father, building and selling motels in Comanche, Luling, Robstown, and Cisco. After that, he moved to Del Rio, where he owned and operated Amistad Marine. In 1982, he moved back to Robstown, and started Thompson Tire Center. Feeling the draw of Amistad Lake where he had enjoyed fishing with his sons and grandchildren, he returned to Del Rio in 1989, and moved the family business with his sons Francis Jr. and Danny. He retired at the age of 65, and continued to enjoy his love of fishing and hunting. He will always be remembered as a family man, and an excellent husband and father, who taught his sons good values, such as honesty and respect for others, which he did through example. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Nell Thompson, his sister Joann Williams, and two of his sons, Francis Jr. and Jimmy Thompson. Visitations will be on Wednesday, 6-9:00P.M, October 26, 2016 at G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside service will be on Thursday, 10:00 A.M, October 27, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Funeral arrangements with G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home, of Del Rio LTD, 114 Fletcher Drive, Del Rio, Texas. 78840 Ph: 830.775.2000
