On Friday the 11th family will host visitation at McNett’s from 10 am to noon, with burial at 2:00P.M at Andrews Old Cemetery. Larry David Herrington left us on January 3rd, 2013 at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Fawn (Little) Herrington Bettis, father Dwaine “Pete” Herrington, brother Max Leldon Herrington, grandson Jimmy Mica, in-laws Phil and “Bert” Butler and Phyllis. He is survived by wife Dixie (Butler) Herrington; son L. David Herrington, Jr. and Traci; brother Sandy Leroy Herrington and wife Carol and their son Nathan; brother-in-law Charles Dunaway; daughter-in-law Nicole; granddaughter Heather and husband Patrick Foster and great-grandchildren Alyssa, Mica, Blake, and Skyler on the way. His life was richly blessed with a huge number of loving friends and relatives (especially all those wonderful rascally cousins!) Larry was one of those rare individuals with a deep-down love and respect for all God’s creatures—and he didn’t talk about this; he lived it. In his professional life he was the teacher and counselor that students and colleagues trusted, responded to, and remembered fondly ever after. While never being preachy or judgmental, he lifted people up by sensing and bringing out the best in each. Personally, he was the “buddy” everyone needs—being around him just made you feel better. Somehow he managed to always go above and beyond his own self and concentrate on others. He loved to come up with small personal gifts like making a tape of someone’s favorite music, or finding a special memento and sending it with a “feel good” note…and larger gifts that he never mentions, like his quietly funding a water well for a poor village in a third world country. Larry had no grandiose intentions to change the world; he just did what came natural to him. But it is wonderful to feel that the Goodness experienced through Larry is still with us and spreading through us to so many others. Larry believed in the Great Spirit and loved being close to Nature—hunting, fishing, beachcombing, four-wheeling, managing his Rafter-H acreage. After working and playing in Hawaii, Alaska, Oman, and Pakistan—he was happy to be back in Texas, at Devil’s Shores with his soul mate of 52 years. Larry considered each day “another day in Paradise.”
